Easy Cowl and Headband Free Crochet Pattern
Our Dreamy Wool Cuddle Soft Chunky Cotton & Acrylic blend yarn is perfect for headbands and cowls.
MATERIALS:
Yarn weight: Chunky / Size 5 / 12-14 Ply
Yarn: Dreamy Wool Cuddle Soft Chunky Yarn
Headband - 45 g
Cowl - 100 g
TOOLS:
6 mm crochet hook (J-10 US size). If you crochet tight increase hook size to 6.5-7 mm to achieve softer fabric.
Scissors, Yarn Needle, stitch marker.
GAUGE:
14 hdc x 5 rows crocheted in rows.
CROCHET TERMS: UK Crochet terms.
If you follow US crochet terms, remember that UK’s half treble crochet (htr) is the same stitch as half double crochet (hdc) in US terms.
ABBREVIATIONS:
Ch – Chain
Sts – Stitches
Hdc - Half Double Crochet
IMPORTANT NOTES:
2 turning chain do NOT count as a stitch.
All htr sts are made in 3rd loop which is behind the back loop of each stitch which creates a ribbing.
RIBBED HEADBAND CROCHET PATTERN:
Using 6 mm make 14 chs.
Row 1: Htr in a 3rd ch from hook, htr in the next 11 chs, turn. (12 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, htr in 3rd loop of each st. (12 sts)
Next Row: Repeat row 2 until you achieve the required lenght (same as circumference of the head).
Finishing: Don't fasten off but join the last row to first row by doing the slip stitches through the top of the stitches from last row and remaining loops of foundation chain. Alternatively fasten off leaving 12" tail, thread it on the yarn needle and sew the ends together.
OPTIONAL: Take the remaining yarn and wrap tightly aroynd the seam several times to make it look like a bow.
RIBBED COWL CROCHET PATTERN:
Using 6 mm make 22 chs.
Row 1: Htr in a 3rd ch from hook, htr in the next 21 chs, turn. (22 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, htr in 3rd loop of each st. (22 sts)
Next Row: Repeat row 2 until you achieve the required lenght (so it feels snug but not too tight around the neck.
Finishing: Sew the ends together the same way as the heaband.
