CROCHETING TECHNIQUES:
Crocheting double crochet in a spiral (continuous) round – Traditional method of crocheting amigurumi parts without a visible seam. At the end of each round, attach a stitch marker on the last st and move it up on each round’s last st as you make them. Alternatively, mark the first st with the stitch marker instead of the last st. At the end of each round, do NOT join to the first st of the round and do NOT make 1 ch before starting the new round. Work the first st of the new round directly on top of the first st from the previous round.
CROCHET SNOWMAN CHRISTMAS DECORATION CROCHET PATTERN
Pattern notes: Snowman is crocheted in a spiral round from the top-down.
Starting: Using colour A and 6 mm hook make a magic ring.
Round 1: 1 ch, 6 dc in the centre of the magic ring. Pull on the starting tail to close the ring and join to the first st with sl st. (6 sts)
Round 2: 2 dc in each st. (12 sts)
Round 3: Dc in each st around. (12 sts)
Round 4: Repeat round 3.
Pattern notes: Temporarily flip your work to the WS (this is the side where the starting tail hangs) and tighten the magic ring by pulling on the starting tail. Thread the tail on the yarn needle and weave it in securely inside the sts and tie a knot at the end. Flip back to the RS.
Round 5: [dc2tog] x 6. (6 sts)
Round 6: 2 dc in each st. (12 sts)
Pattern notes: Stuff the head with toy stuffing.
Round 7: [2 dc in next st, dc in next st] x 6. (18 sts)
Round 8: Dc in each st around. (18 sts)
Round 9: [dc2tog, dc in next st] x 6. (12 sts)
Round 10: [dc2tog] x 6. (6 sts)
Round 11: 2 dc in each st. (12 sts)
Pattern notes: Stuff the middle part of the snowman with toy stuffing.
Round 12: [2 dc in next st, dc in next st] x 6. (18 sts)
Round 13: [2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts] x 6. (24 sts)
Round 14: Dc in each st around. (24 sts)
Round 15: [dc2tog, dc in next 2 sts] x 6. (18 sts)
Round 16: [dc2tog, dc in next st] x 6. (12 sts)
Round 17: [dc2tog] x 6. (6 sts)
Finishing: Fasten off, leaving around 6” ending tail. Add the remaining stuffing. Do NOT overstuff the snowman to avoid stretching the sts, which can result in the stuffing showing through the holes. Thread the ending tail on the yarn needle and close the hole at the bottom of the snowman (for the best look use an invisible finish method). Weave in the rest of the tail through the sts of the last 3 rounds, closing the large holes (caused by decreasing) at the same time.
EMBROIDERING:
Thread a long piece of black embroidery thread (double it up) and tie a knot on the end.
Embroider the eyes on round 3, one stitch apart.
Embroider the smile at the bottom of round 4.
Embroider the buttons as seen in the photo.
Using orange colour embroidery thread embroider the carrot nose between round 3 and 4 as seen in the photos.
CREATING STICK HANDS:
Cut around 6 cm (2 ½”) piece of black embroidery thread. Thread it through the yarn needle and then through the side of round 7 (around 3 sts from the buttons) making sure you have 2 equal lengths of thread on each side. Tie a knot with both ends and then put those 2 ends together and tie another knot close to the snowman’s body. Tie another knot around 2 cm (1/2”) away from from the edge of the thread to form 2 smaller branches.
