TOOLS:

6 mm crochet hook (J-10 US size)

Scissors, yarn needle, stitch marker.

GAUGE:

10 dc x 14 rounds crocheted in a spiral round.

If you follow US crochet terms, remember that UK’s double crochet (dc) is the same stitch as single crochet (sc) in US terms and Treble Crochet (Tr) is Double Crochet (Dc) in US terms.

SPECIAL STITCHES INSTRUCTIONS:

Picot - Make 2 chs and sl st to the 2nd ch from hook.

CROCHETING DIRECTION:

The coaster is crocheted in a spiral round.

When you crochet in a Spiral Round, attach a stitch marker on the last stitch at the end of each round and move it up on the last stitch of each round as you make them. Work first st of the new round directly on top of the first st from the previous round.

HAPPY SUNFLOWER COASTER CROCHET PATTERN

Using colour A, make a magic ring.

Round 1: 1 ch, 6 dc in the centre of a magic ring, pull on the starting tail to close the magic ring. (6 sts)

Round 2: 2 dc in each stitch around. (12 sts)

Round 3: [2 dc in next st, dc in next st] x 6. (18 sts)

Round 4: [dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st] x 6. (24 sts)

Round 5: [2 dc in next st, dc in next 3 sts] x 6. (30 sts)

Round 6: [dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st] x 6. (36 sts)

Pattern notes: Fasten off colour A using invisible fasten off method. Using colour B make a slip knot on your hook to create a round of petals. You can start round 7 in any of the sts.

Round 7: [Sl st to the next st, make 2 chs, <tr, picot, tr> in next st, 2 chs, sl st in next st] x 12 . (12 petals)

On the end of round 7, sl st to first sl st of the round and fasten off. Weave in all your loose ends.

OPTIONAL - Using embroidery thread and a smaller size hook (for example, 3.5 mm) surface slip stitch a smile and eyes.
