IMPORTANT UPDATE: We Resume USA Shipping!
In our last update, it wasn’t clear exactly what fees might apply for US orders. Now that the changes are in effect, we have more information available.
Here's what we've found out you might be charged:
-
Yarn duties should be a max of 7.5% (not too bad!)
-
Reciprocal Tariff: Based on the country of origin. Our yarn is made in Turkey, so this potentially adds 15%.
There’s also a handling fee charged by couriers for collecting tariffs. DHL charges a hefty £17, so we’re removing the Express option to avoid this cost for our customers. Instead, we now only offer Standard Shipping (7–30 days) via Royal Mail, which charges just a £0.50 clearance fee!
In summary, maximum possible charges:
-
15% of the order value + £0.50, or
-
22.5% (7.5% + 15%) of the order value + £0.50
This is much lower than expected and similar to what our Canadian customers have been paying, so we’re confident our yarn remains affordable for US customers.
Interesting fact: We recently sent a small parcel to the US after the new charges came into effect. Surprisingly, the customer didn’t receive a duty invoice and the parcel was delivered immediately. This suggests that for smaller orders, customs may waive the fees.
We haven’t added software to charge duties upfront on our website yet—it’s a costly solution for a small, family-run business. For now, we’ll email each US customer about potential duties before shipping to avoid any surprises.
Welcome back, US! 💕
